  Hinchley Wood
Hinchley Wood is another of these typical Surrey villages that people are often surprised still exists. It retains its community spirit and, like Claygate, has a wealth of excellent properties, many dating from the 1930s when the village was developed on the sites of two dairy farms.

Gascoigne-Billinghurst’s extensive knowledge of the area goes back to those days, so we can be said to have developed as the area expanded when the well-known builders ‘Berg’ built a large number of detached family homes of a very high quality. More semi-detached and terraced properties have followed over the years but the village has still retained its character.

Consequently, it remains a good place for families to live and for people to bring up their children. It has its own primary school, with an excellent selection of state and independent schools for older children in nearby Esher and elsewhere.

Close by is the equally charming village of Thames Ditton, full of character with its narrow winding streets and numerous character properties. Kingston, Guildford, Richmond, Esher, Wimbledon – all are easily accessed by car or train, where you’ll find excellent entertainment facilities with cinemas, theatres, clubs, pubs, and restaurants in abundance.

And, of course, with the M25 (providing easy access to Gatwick and Heathrow Airports) and the A3 close by - but not intruding - residents of Hinchley Wood really do have the best of all worlds.

Places to visit
For those with an eye to history and the open air, there’s Hampton Court just down the road, Polesden Lacey, Claremont Gardens and a heap of other National Trust properties nearby. Then there’s Surrey’s best kept secret, Painshill Park at Cobham, with Hampton Court, Home, Bushy and Richmond Parks all virtually on the doorstep. Not to mention Old Father Thames within a few minutes drive.
